Boy, it took a strong effort to ask that question with a straight face.

Nevertheless, has anyone else noticed that in 2008 three of the major gay adult movie studios all released hunky swimmer poolside themed movies?  We’re awash in them!  The 2008 movies are Trunks 5 from Hot House Entertainment, Slide from Jet Set and Splish Splash from Buckshot Productions.

Not only that, but all three movies cast a common model: David Dakota, a steely Ken Doll type of guy. Furthermore, Dakota, is pictured on the boxcover of two out of the three:Hot House’s Trunks 5 and Jet Set’s Slide.

People have often criticized European film producers for flooding the market with carbon copy movies starring the same batch of models.  Is this a trend with the California studios?  Or maybe this trend was fueled by Michael Phelps-mania after the Beijing Olympics.  (Nah!)

Actually the more likely reason is because Hot House’s Trunks film franchise has been so financially successful that other studios seek to hop on the bandwagon.  Of the three, Trunks 5 is the weakest, simply because the movie really just rehashed everything we’ve seen before in the previous four movies, all far better.

Slide was pretty good, buffeted by some snappy cross-scene editing.  However thanks to the gorgeous and very enthusiastic cast, the award for the best of the three goes to Buckshot’s Splish Splash.

One wonders if anyone in the industry even knows what is going on at a next door studio. Or perhaps, maybe we all, as consumers, just cannot get enough of hunks in trunks.

Like last month, we present a goodie bag of mail order dvd deals available right now through the end of December.  Typically I find the “Bargain Bins” on mail order sites to be stuffed full of crap.  Allow me to point out a couple diamonds in the rough.  Also, like last month, I specifically sought out the very enjoyable, new in the box DVDs that are below $20 in price.

• First up is a very hot little number from Eurocreme’s very brief film line First Crush, filmed in England: Boy Meets Boy.  This movie includes some very hot lads that appeared regularly in their more ambitious Boy movie line, like Reece Richards and especially the buoyant blond Tommy Trent.  The price? • Channel 1 Releasing seems to have lots of their bisexual movie inventory on sale, probably because they just released their new AC/DC switcharoo bombshell DVD Shifting Gears. (Watch here for its review very shortly)

  However, here’s one fun little movie buried way in the back of their discount closet: Homogenized, released by All Worlds in 1998.

  Fans of sci-fi porn should not miss this movie, which is the best rendition of the 1970s classic A Clockwork Orange yet done in gay porn. Director Michael Zen describes the year 2051, when all the guys have become “homogenized,” i.e. forced by society into a gay sexual orientation. One of the few holdouts is Brent Cross, who interestingly was one of the many straight guys who worked in the gay adult film industry. In Homogenized, Cross is a straight guy playing a straight guy in a gay porn. (Hmmmm… any Victor/Victoria woman-as-man-as-woman comparisons spring to mind?) The film’s story and imaginative imagery here actually overpowers much of the overall sex, but it’s interesting and well worth the $14.95 sale price.

• If you live in Europe, you have just a few more days left to purchase the comprehensive catalog of Homoactive at a 20% discount. This is a great way to buy brand new releases that otherwise would cost full price.
• The final deal - Studio 2000 has bundled four extremely hot Czech movies for one great price - $49.95. The movies are Good and Bad, Winning Ways, Strokes to Seduction and Payload. Their website is calling this the Ladislav Pekar Super Set. Pekar is a sexy dirty blond who appeared in a number of Studio 2000 International imports, and believe me, you’ll find lots to like in these movies beyond Mr. Pekar. Winning Ways and Strokes to Seduction, in particular, were fucking incredible movies starring a cast of amazing guys. This is when movies from the Czech Republic were new and da bomb!
